"Best resources" is strictly a matter of opinion, for what might be "best" to me or you, might not be so true to others.

Why not check out php's website, as they do have a simple tutorial.

Also, their entire API is available, with example code uses plus some user contributed examples to some of the specific functions.

To offer one API example, check this reference information to function str_replace.
  1. Description, parameters, return value, and example usage is the first few sections.
  2. There may be a 'See Also' section to offer similar or alternative function handling to achieve the desired goal.
  3. User contributions/notes are located at the bottom.
  4. To the right-hand side of that page, is other available PHP "String" functions that you can click to get the usage details.
HTH.
Post again should you have questions after getting started.

Re: Learning PHP

PHP is really straightforward and simple.
The main things you need to learn is first HTML/CSS and then how to write MySQL Queries and you can do pretty much most of the things with it!

Re: Learning PHP

Hey, I think the best website to learn web designing and development is to go on this website www.w3schools.com and try every tutorial with your own hands. I believe people learn from their own mistakes. When I was new in my professional career I have learnt a lot from this site. Hope this will help you.
