Change File or Folder Permissions Recursively

The following Linux commands are useful when you want to change or modify file or folder permissions recursively, quickly and easily.

In the examples below, we assume the top level directory is /home/jdesilva/domains/gidforums.com and we want to modify every file and folder (permission) below that.

Change file permissions recursively:
Code:
find /home/jdesilva/domains/gidforums.com ! -type d -exec chmod 640 {} \;

Modify (only) directory or folder permissions recursively:
Code:
find /home/jdesilva/domains/gidforums.com -type d -exec chmod 750 {} \;

Re: Change File or Folder Permissions Recursively

You can also fire below command -

==============================
ind /home/user -type d -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 0775
find /home/user -type f -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 0664

OR

find . -type d -exec chmod 775 {} \;
find . -type f -exec chmod 644 {} \;
==============================

Please note, you will need to fire these commands under public_html directory.
