Cool

Speeding up Adobe Reader 6

Now I've heard lots of posts about how bloated the new Adobe Reader is because it loads up all the plugins at startup, which is ridiculous. However, help is at hand.

This is from the original article here: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=11041

Quote:
Install Adobe Reader 6
From the Start->Run windows menu, Open the "x:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader" folder, where x is the right drive letter.
Find the plug_ins folder and rename it plug_ins_disabled
Create a new folder named plug_ins
Copy the following files from "plug_ins_disabled" to "plug_ins": EWH32.api, printme.api, and search.api

I'm off to go try i now.

Wow this is impressive. Such a simple trick and a 1.5mb pdf file opens like a dream.

It won't allow you to view encrypted files this way, but I think I can cope with it.

Damn nice trick! I wonder what else it disables, though? Will I still be able to make pdf's?

It just removes a load of unnecessary plugins that maybe 1% of all users need. You can't for example load up a watermarked PDF from something like the British Standards library, but how often do you need to do that? If you need the functionality back, you can always reverse what you did.

I highly recommend you try it though.
