questions about ram instalation


ok i am new to this forum hi everybody.

I was talkin to a freind of mine about ram instalation and he said dat old ram dont go wit new ram at all. well i put in my old and my new one in and it seems to be workin jus fine could some one tell me how to test if its workin fine and not slowly eatin my computer away. i can tell you it recongnizes both of them and it seems a lot faster with them i jus dont know if it will brake later on because i have an old one and a new one installed so could some one please inlightin me about this ram stuff... tnx a whole bunch and please excuse the english and spelling english isnt my first language tnx again

IMO it shouldn't be that big a problem. By combining older with newer (slower with faster) memory you are likely losing the performance kick of the faster ram - the upside though would be that you have more ram and so your system should run faster.

If you see a lot of O/S or hardware errors (blue screens, lockups, reboots) then you might have a ram problem; but if everything works ok keep it in.

tnx for the reply div.. i figure same ting if it dint do anything to the computer already then i think it fine but you know jus tryin to be carefull and not brake my comp cuz well it might be cheap one but i still dont have the money to replace. anyother opions would be apriceated to and again excusem my english

go to control panel - system, and see how much ram it says u have, is it more than before.
if the old ram is working then thats cool, but its probably ok. but i wudnt bother with it to be honest, a stcik of 512 ram is so cheap these days, chcuk al the old stuf out and get a new one!
