Problem with fonts...

Hi everyone,

I've got a silly bit of problem... with fonts. Everything textual on my screen comes up in italicized fonts! Even as I type this thread... its italicized... the titles and content of all threads at gid is italicized too.. Windows Help and Support is italicized as well... although the icon names are not.

Can anyone tell me how to restore my computer to a more sane state?

Regards,
Netnut.

Re: Problem with fonts...

IIRC, there is a setting in Windows that tells it what the default font is; it's possible that it somehow changed to italics. I don't recall where it is located, but I would assume something like System or maybe another applet under Control Panel. It could also be a Registry error, so you may try a Registry correction program.

Re: Problem with fonts...

I think I forgot to mention that I had deleted a few unwanted fonts from my system, so there's a fare chance that I have deleted the "default"... so can you please tell me what that default exactly is. I'd like to check the existence of the font before I edit registry etc.

Regards,
Netnut.

Re: Problem with fonts...

I don't know what the current defaults are; it used to be Arial but I don't know if that's correct anymore. I have found web sites in the past that listed the default installed fonts for each program/OS (since a program may add it's own fonts to the system). I'd recommend doing a search for something like "default windows fonts" or similar.

Re: Problem with fonts...

Thanks CL, I got the problem sorted out today. I had accidently deleted the verdana fonts while deleting a few un-needed ones. Replaced them, and all is well.

For the benefit of all those browsing through here:
Check to see if you've got 4 verdana (simple, italics, bold and bold italics) files in your fonts folder (windows\fonts\). That was the problem in my case.... get all the 4 files from somewhere and paste them there... and you're done.

Regards,
Netnut.
