CD/DVD does not read/or exist

Have Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+. Computer crashed. Restored everything. CD/DVD drive does not exist. Need to know where to find the correct site to possibly download installation for driver. Any help appreciated.

Gee, thanks for the info. Very useful in troubleshooting.

What type of DVD drive is it? You have a mobile AMD chip; does this mean you have a laptop or do you have one of the special desktop models? Does your computer have a recovery disk (you could use the disk in another computer and pull out the necessary files)? Does the drive show up in Hardware Manager at all?

Re: CD/DVD does not read/or exist

Yes it is a laptop. I do not have any recovery discs only one for windows xp. Under the Hardware Manager it shows disk drives IC25N030ATCS04-0 also DVD/CD Rom Drives Slimtype Combo LSC-24081. It also says that my system is using a generic drive. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated.

Re: CD/DVD does not read/or exist

Okay. Thanks for the info.

It looks like you have a Lite-On DVD drive; the generic drive is probably a floppy and the other one is probably your hard drive. Since Windows is seeing your drives in Device Manager, it should be able use them all. Is there a yellow "splat" displayed on the DVD drive in Device Manager? That would indicate a problem like IRQ conflict or incorrect drivers.

You might try deleting the DVD drive from Device Manager then running "Add New Hardware" from the Control Panel. Windows should detect it and install the drivers for it. If not, visit www.liteon.com and see if they have drivers for your drive. Otherwise you'll have to contact your laptop's manufacturer and see if they have what you need.
