You might look into Google Pages (I think that's still the name). It's not up right now but if you don't need something right now, it could be worth your time to wait for it.

If you just want to create simple sites, you might as well just learn HTML and make a site in a text editor (e.g. Windows Notepad). You really don't need a graphical editor like Frontpage or Dreamweaver unless you have elaborate or large sites that would be a pain to hand-code. There are many free and shareware HTML IDE's like HoTMetaL, Evrsoft, etc. that will help you out immensely with text highlighting, built-in Javascripts, etc.

I know that's not really the answer you wanted, but if you're serious about making web pages, you really do need to know how to hand-code before you start using Dreamweaver. That way you can always tweak it when things don't go right.

So, what solution did you choose? I too would recommend Dreamweaver. It is considered to be the best web development tool on the market.

Will thow another vote for Dreamweaver. Adobe is a good company and will continue to improve the software. I prefer mostly coding sites. It is handy to be able to see some of your work before you post it to your site.

A common misconception is that you will get to see everything. CSS, PHP and other lanuages are still code view only.

I have been an avid user of Microsoft Frontpage for years. Microsoft is getting rid of Frontpage and coming out with Expressions. It is free right now while in Beta test and so far I have been more than please. The code it creates is compliant and it knows to close or open the tags if you are using HTML or XHTML.

DreamWeaver is the only software thru which you can create website with a snatch of ur finger. In this adding images, flash files, making menus etc is easy. Once you get to learn to use this. You will be abl learn to work on any other editor like Frontpage. If you want to create flash websites then thier are plenty of Flash website makers. Just have search from google.

Re: Please recommend a good, user-friendly website builder

I am a newbie at designing webpages, and I found that Dreamweaver was the best at using. It was easy, and helped automate some of the steps toward creating your website. It also has a feature for keeping track of how pages are linked together, and if one page is changed and affects other pages. It will inform you about it, and offers the option to make the changes for you.

I also have found an E-book that provided a crash course in learning the basic usage for Dreamweaver.

The book was called:

"Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Weekend Crash course."

By the end of the weekend, I was able to start creating my own webpages from the tuturials that were offered through this book.

This is my site. I do not claim it to be perfect, but I am trying.
