how many processors??


I came across this qustion in one interview sites(coolinterview)

How many processors are there in a pentium microprocessor? In Sparc?

Can anyone through light on it.

Which version? Plus, how are you defining "processor"? There's a debate currently about a video/MP3 player that's "dual core" on Ars Technica; they've separated out the DAC and amplifier chip from the decoder chip. Does it make it truly "dual core"?

AFAIK, up until the big deal last year w/ AMD and Intel offering dual core chips, the mainstream CPU's were all single core. Sparc, I don't know about. The big thing for the last few decades was SMP w/ multiple chips, not cores.
