Using browser extensions to enhance web design

I will continue my evangelism of Mozilla Firebird since its my newfound toy on the computer and I've been introduced into the exciting field of EXTENSIONS.

Now your probably thinking, "so what?" well now we get to the interesting part. First, there's absolutely tons of extensions that increase the functionality of your browsing experience like mouse gestures and tabbed browsing enhancements, but thats not what I'm going to talk about.

A lot of the extensions have been thought for the web designer to assist in forming their site correctly. If you ever do install Firebird (go to http://www.mozilla.org ), then go over to the Extension Room and have a look around.

Some for example:
Quote:
Web developer -
Adds a menu and a toolbar to the browser with various web developer tools. Current tools include converting form POSTs to GETs, hiding images, outlining block level elements, and disabling styles - plus many more.
Quote:
Checky -
A simple interface for web content and resource developers to free and commercial online validaton and analysis services.

With Checky you can setup, combine, and use 18 different online validation and checking services. Simply choose your services with Checky-Agent, browse to a web resource and press F10 to display the results of the selected services in a new browser tab or window.

Quote:
live http headers-
Adds information about the HTTP headers in 3 ways:

* By adding a 'Headers' tab in 'View Page Info' of a web page.
* By adding a tool in the 'Tools->Web Development' menu to be able to display http headers in real time
* By letting you edit request headers and replay a URL.

Quote:
style selector-
Adds a menu in the status bar from which you can choose between different stylesheets for a web page, assuming the page author has provided more than one. The icon next to the menu is greyed out when there are no alternate styles available.

Quote:
venkman-
Venkman is the outstanding JavaScript debugger for Mozilla based browsers.

Finally, the last one is of particular note especially if you want to test the responses of other browsers on your site or just promote it to others

Quote:
User agent switcher-
This extension adds a menu to switch the user agent of the browser. It is designed to provide functionality similar to the "Browser Identification" feature of Opera and allows you to configure the list of user agents to display in the menu.

Hope this helps someone.
