Hi group
new to apache http server... installed version 2.0.55 on win xp pro.. installation done smoothly.. but didnt see the apache2 service in service panel of xp, so, installed service from command prompt (\bin directory) using

Apache -k install
Apache -k start

service installed perfectly and started. change made in httpd.conf file for port 8080

listen 8080
ServerName localhost:8080

right now no parameter changed expect the listed above. i have tried to check whether the apache installation done perfect or not.
i had typed localhost in IE and after few seconds the page displayed with following message

Network Error (tcp_error)

A communication error occurred: "Operation timed out"
The Web Server may be down, too busy, or experiencing other problems preventing it from responding to requests. You may wish to try again at a later time.

and url at the address bar is changed to www.localhost.com

i m expecting to see the first page of apache http server but couldnt
now, as a new to apache i have searched lot and read lots of articles but couldnt find the solution. if anybody can help me out for this first step problem.

still php and mysql left for installation, once apache start up in normal way i will proceed with php and mysql

i can see apache service monitor showing apache2 service up and running perfectly..

addition to the above msg..

i have checked with firefox... its working perfectly... i can see the test page from apache..

its not working with IE 6.. any solutions??
