Unhappy

can't make the cd act like a floppy

I recently got a cd burner added to my computer, it came with Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0, and it takess 15 minutes to format a CD in order to be able to write to it. THen 9 times out of 10 it gaves me an error message anyways. If I do get it to write, then I can't ever write to it again, without reformatting again. I've talked to technical support at Dell, and searched all of the Roxio help info.....but still no answers. All I want is to be able to use it like I would a regular floppy disk!!!! Should this be so hard? ANyone have any ideas ?????
Please help!!!

Right I assume what you are referring to is called mount rainier where the cd-rw is configured in such a way to work like a floppy disk. This is a relatively new technology so it may be that you have to put a firmware upgrade on your cd-writer to do what you want.

Tell me what your dell cd-(rewriter ?) is and I'll have a quick look.

Are you sure its a Dell Cd-rw and not some other company like phillips etc?

Can you get a serial number off the CD-rw for me?

Hello Cheri48189,

I have been using my CDRW (it's a SONY) since a couple of years already, the software that came with it SONY CD-MAKER 2000 PRO includes a little thingy called FileCD by NTI (you can search Google for "FileCD") which does EXACTLY what you are expecting to do with yours.

Same thing, format once for a long time, then use the CD as a backup medium, adding and deleting files as if it were a floppy/HDD.

I don't know how useful my information is but you should tell Dell that this will be your last Dell machine and next time, you're getting some Taiwanese machine and a SONY cd writer and see how fast they react to that!
