NTSF Corrupt - a new twist?

Hi,

My computer recently crashed due to a corrupt file. No probs as I was going to reformat anyway. I was having trouble accessing the HD due to the error so I installed it as a slave in my other computer and I reformatted both partitions. I reinstalled into the old machine but it still wouldn't work (HD jumpers had been readjusted) so I put it back in computer 2 and installed XP Home. I ran it on no 2 and everything works fine. I set the HD up with the wanted files and then reinstalled it into the original machine. Guess what.... NTFS corrupt again.

Summary

In machine 2 everything works fine. In original machine nothing works.

I have read much on how to fix this problem but I cannot get to the repair part of the windows setup before the machine crashes. I have disabled all USB and also removed the memory and reinstalled.

Is this a hardware or sofeware problem???

PLEASE HELP

Steve

Re: NTSF Corrupt - a new twist?

I'd say it's a hardware issue w/ the first machine. The software is only on the HD and if the 2nd machine takes it just fine, then I'd guess there's something wrong w/ the original. Could be an I/O problem w/ the mobo or BIOS.

Thanks for your feedback. I have now tried resetting the bios and now the system is showing the following as corrupt:
\Windows\system32\config\system

You might try getting a clean copy of the corrupted file/directory and copy it over to the bad drive. You might also be able to get the Windows Recovery Console to fix the problem.
