Gigabyte 6800GS Power connection

Hi

Has anyone got one of these Graphic cards?
If so can you tell me if both the power leads supplied with the graphics card have to be connected?
I also noticed that each plug has only 3 wires and the red wire goes to a black wire when connected to the PSU connection.
Have a look at picture. just paste link into your browser.

Re: Gigabyte 6800GS Power connection

Not having one of these cards I can only guess. But I would think that, if the card maker included power cables on the card, they must be there for a reason. Some of the higher end cards require more power than they can get just from the slot connector, so you have to connect the external power lead to your power supply directly.

Can't really say anything about the colors, but the connectors are designed to go on only one way, so if it fits then it must be correct.

Re: Gigabyte 6800GS Power connection

I have that exact card and I had trouble at first cause i overlooked the fact that it needed external power from my power supply. I had to replace the power supply and upgrade to one that had the proper connector. After that it worked just fine. You may also need more watts. That is also fixed by upgrading the power supply.
