Live Performances: Favourite Artistes

I have this "thing" about buying and collecting LIVE recordings of my favourite singers and bands. My current (and notable old) favourites include:
  • Coldplay (listening to their live performances gives me goosebumps everytime)
  • U2
  • Eric Clapton
  • Bob Marley
  • Prince & NPG (not so much anymore but I have some of his older ones)
  • Sarah McLachlan (bought the Afterglow Live CD today)

Some I do, some I don't.

What I find interesting is in the comparisons of the songs. On one hand the live version is missing many of the elements from the studio version so that the song sounds a little dull. But on the other hand, the live versions have so much ore energy that the missing sound is nullified.

I also appreciate when the band does not copy the studio version but changes the tempo, instrumentation, etc. making the live version new/different.

Then there are the live bands that have mediocre albums. The Greatful Dead were a great live band but the albums were OK according to a friend (I never was much of a Dead-Head). The reason for purchasing the album was a crutch to 're-live' their concerts.

And I meant to say that, too. That's why we are attracted to Rock music.

The first O.A.R. cd I heard was live. They're really good live
There is a Rage Against the Machine import Cd called Live and Rare which is my favortie Rage CD
Eva Cassidy does a knock out Jazz performance live on a CD called Live at Blues Alley.

I think WaltP said it best. The live albums have a certian energy to them that makes them just as valuable as the studio albums.
