Robots taking over the boards?

What really is the Matrix? We'd better find out fast, cause bots are taking over the boards.

Have a look at UltraBot, on the forums.ultrashock.com forums, and go to the Test board at the bottom. In case there are those who say that Artificial Intelligence is rubbish, I quote:

Ultrabot
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
you are stupid!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I will remember you said that when robots take over the World.

OK, this bot doesn't have a chance of passing the Turing test (where a person talks to either a human being or a machine, but doesn't know which, and decides that the machine is a real person) but it's a work in progress.

And in case you thought that that was an idle threat, there is a new project Modbot, being set up on the PHPBuilder boards www.phpbuilder.com, to automate spam deletions, fixBB code syntax & maybe even casual banter.

Now we won't know who is flesh & bood, and who is algorithm & circury. Scaaaary But seriously cool. I'm going to follow this closely.

The link kept failing on me for a bit till I figured out it was just a missing a 't' in 'http'; anyway - http://www.ultrashock.com/ until Garth comes along and fixes that.

BTW, I can't see anything beyond the frontpage since I have FLASH turned off on my browser.

Yeah I saw this kind of idea on someone elses forum, that had joined up here though it wasn't working very well.

You can almost comprehend what they are saying, but its like when you use an automated translation service, it makes sense but it isn't quite saying it right.

Yes, it's been talked about nearly everywhere I have joined up (forums).

I don't suppose anyone here knows how this thing is supposed to work? I don't mean specifics, just an overview will do...

I personally think it's good for a laugh but after that first 2 or 3 threads, it gets 'boring'.

I wouldn't mind the 'moderator-bot' idea though; I mean not the one that goes on and on with idle chatter/posts... but one that actually does something useful

Yeah, I thought the ModBot was a good idea. If it had the same SPAM filtering as email systems, it would be really good at sniffing out spam.

Most AI systems work on the premise of finding keywords in your input, and having a background library of phrases with which to respond.

If you entered, say "What is your name?", it would pick up on "your" and "name" and find a good answer in the database for these.

It has no ability to phrase sentences on it's own, templates are made for it. And asking it something it doesn't know, yields rubbish.

But there are constant efforts to come up with new theorys and algorithms, to make AI more realistic. We may yet be able to emulate human conversation.

I can't remember for the life of me, which search engine forum had a bot that introduced the forum to you when you signed up and would sweep up stuff although not sure what.

If it comes to me I'll let you know.

Hey guys! Sorry I've been away been busy working on lots of projects. But I though that I would stop by and see what’s going on. This is a very interesting subject at least for me I was unaware that there are now bots on forums I'll have to check this out. But I've been mess with bot for almost a year now I have one on AIM I can't remember the name right now but I love this AI stuff very interesting. I have a number of ideas for bot but the one problem I keep running into is the AIML (I think that the name) I have a hard time understanding this. But I hope that your right GF
