Spliting a Site across two servers

Hi

I have a website that I’m having a bit of trouble with, it’s installed on a really good server. However, the site has a number of flash files which are regularly downloaded and this is draining all my bandwidth. Now the cost for the hosting is growing as the bandwidth of the site increases purely because of these files.

I don’t want to go to cheaper hosting because I went through three hosting service to find this one and I don’t want to move all the backend and domain name again.

What I was thinking was maybe I could get another cheap hosting to just put these flash files on, maybe one of these unlimited bandwidth deals (not sure how fast they would be).

Can anyone see any problems with this idea? Is anyone else doing something like this? Does anyone suggest a really cheap reliable high bandwidth deal?

Yes, it's definitely something you could consider doing.

If your domain registrar allows it, you could even set up your (sub) domain name to point to each e.g.

Code:
example.com. A 192.0.34.166 www A 192.0.34.166 files.example.com. A 193.0.0.236 # cheap server ip

or something like that...

There is no such thing as "unlimited bandwidth or diskspace". Even true "unmetered bandwidth" has a limiting factor (speed of network connection) and it costs a lot more than fixed bandwidth servers.

Div is right, unlimited or unmetered are both not much more than marketing tricks to try to get you aboard. There are a lot of shared hosting companies that offer 100GB or more (even some like 400GB!) per month for less than $10. It shouldn't be too hard to find a place to store your download-intensive items to offload the work from your main server.
