When clicking on MAILTO (either in OUTLOOK EXPRESS or in INTERNET EXPLORER), 60+ Internet

Explorer windows open up.

First thought:
It was due to Outlook Express not being the preferred email client.
Made the change – but it would never stick.

But when I found the registry key

Hkey_classes_root\mailto
I was NOT able to change the permissions…
Even in SAFE MODE as ADMINISTRATOR

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !

down load FREE utility DefaultMail.exe from
windowsxp.mvps.org

run it and select your default email progam like outlook express,(or what ever program you are using it) it will fix the problem of registry mail to which opens multiple window of IE on mailto command.

It worked for me I have XP.
