What files do I need to keep?

I had a dual boot PC with both Win98 & WinXP on the C: and D: drives respectively. I wanted remove Win98, so I did it by deleting its entry from the boot.ini

Now that 98 is gone I'd like to clear away the hard drive space by deleting the windows and program files folders from the C: drive, or rather I'd like to format it with NTFS file sys, but I want to know which file(s) constitute the boot-up process (boot.ini is one of 'em I'm sure), so as to avoid a boot failure.

Any1 with any ideas or suggestion? Please help.

Regards,
Netnut.

Try this link http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/boot.htm. It describes boot disks and also gives you the files required for making a boot disk.

You might be able to install XP on C: and then just copy what you want to the C: drive, then format D:. That way you won't need to worry about boot files. Just a thought.

If you havemodified the boot.ini file, then there is nothing you have to worry about deleting the files.
Just go on and format the drive, after you backup your other important files.

Paramesh.

Wouldn't that erase off everything, I mean boot.ini etc. etc. then what do I do? I have a backup of boot.ini, so after the format should I just copy and paste it onto the c: drive?
