Upgrading GIDForums

I nearly forgot to mention this...

Over the next few days, I will be busy testing the upgrade to GIDForums™ at this closed location: www.gidforums.net.

This is just for your information.

Sure, give us the link but lock us out.

You're such a tease.

Re: Upgrading GIDForums

It was not my intention to tease... besides, you're not locked out. Unless you didn't get one, I sent out an email (quite a while back) with the login info. At the time, I was testing the forum upgrade at gidforums.INFO -- it's the same details.

As for the news, I thought it will help explain why I won't be around much.

What is being upgraded? Just the script, but because I have (previously) modified the script quite a bit, I need to make sure my modifications still work after the upgrade. I cannot afford another blunder vis-a-vis the search engine bots.

Re: Upgrading GIDForums

Not sure if this is related to your upgrades, but some annoying things have started happening in the last few days.

The page used to automatically jump to the "quick reply" box when I'd click the quick reply icon but it doesn't do this anymore. Now I have to manually scroll to the quick reply box after clicking the button.

Previously, after I replied to a thread, I could jump back directly to the "new posts" listing just by using the Back button or alt+left arrow buttons. Now, after the page has refreshed and shows my post, going back just goes to the "reply" box page, then to the original thread, then finally I get back to the "new posts" list.

They're not bad things, since most other sites act this way normally. I've just gotten spoiled by this wonderful site.

I cannot recall making any changes to the web pages (here) in a while, i.e. I am sure I haven't made any changes in the last 1 month. I upgraded PHP recently (16.01.2006) and run yum update every weekend (at least) but updates like these rarely affect the client/browser.

I use this all the time, and everything still works the same for me (even now). It sounds like a browser / javascript incompatibility issue, have you upgraded or changed your browser recently?

This is something new for me, I will try it the next time I have "new posts" to view.

Re: Upgrading GIDForums

Not sure what happened but everything's working fine today. All I did was shutdown Opera and reopen it; normally I just close the window and leave it active in memory so it pops up quickly. Probably just memory corruption.

Sorry to bug you.
