radeon 9600xt - damaged resistor

Hey!
I need a circuit diagram for gigabyte graphics card : gv-r96x128du. Reason? While taking off the heatpipe cooling block I accidentally crushed and tore off one of the resistors. It's marked: R769. Therefore, to fix it I need a diagram with the tech specs or someone who could read the symbol of the resistor from the card. I couldn't find it anywhere on the net and I desperately need Your help! Any advice greatly appreciated!!

Is your card still under warranty? You might be able to get Gigabyte to fix it for you, though because it was "operator error" you may have voided your warranty. If it's a surface mount resistor, you're pretty much SOL. If it's a normal size resistor you should be able to tell the resistance value of it by the color bands.

I really doubt you'll be able to get the diagram off the net. It's probably still considered proprietary info by Gigabyte, so you'd have to contact them for a copy.

It's surface mount and completely crushed (thus can't read anything). I' ve contacted Gigabyte but they ignored my request. Thanks anyway!! I guess I'm SOL. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Found a photo with the front view of the card and fixed the problem. Thanx

How exactly did you fix it? Surface mount resistor's are difficult to come by.

Re: radeon 9600xt - damaged resistor

I serially connected two resistors to get the right resistance and put them in a rubber lining. They are attached to the circuit board with a thin wire. It doesn't look nice but works! I found a picture of the card on the net and it was big enough for me to read the marking on the resistor plus there were a few identical groups of resistor on the circuit board (should have looked closly in the first place!). So I finally figured out the resistance. I got lucky.

FYI: SMT resistors are very easily obtained in nearly any package and any quantity through many, many suppliers:

Avnet
Arrow
Mouser
Future
DigiKey
...and many more. In fact, you need only ask for a few samples and there are plenty of companies who will send them out to you right away. The price I pay for SMT resistors is probably on the order of .002-.005 cents per part.

I'm not sure where you are in Hawaii, but in Honolulu, there used to be a place near the airport where you could buy SMT components, called Honolulu Electronics on Auahi street. Of course, they were retail priced!

Take Care.

I realize now that my question was quite stupid. If you look, you will find.

I've never been in the market for SMT parts so didn't look for "specialty" shops; I just mentally believed that if you couldn't find it at Radio Shack, Fry's, etc. then you would have to special order them.
