making webserverHi guys,
I have my PC with windows server 2003 installed and connected directly with a router, provided by ISP. I am using eathernet router as a gateway for my internet connectivity. Means router is directly connected to switch and PCs connected with switch are using router as a gateway where router is connected with DSL line provided by ISP. BTW, I have hosted my website on a webserver somewhere in US. Is there any way that i can make my PC a webserver(on internet) and i host my website on my machine that web users can access my website from any part of the world. Any suggestions are heartedly welcome. OR Can i get a step by step process to make it. (if its possible) regards, Hazee |

Re: making webserverYes you can however it might not be allowed by your ISP. They normally don't want home users setting up a web site w/o paying for it; the bandwidth given to a normal user isn't designed for high-traffic, especially the upload speeds. (This means you might have screaming downloads, but anyone accessing your home server might get something like 128k/sec.)
If you're running Windows, you can install IIS, which is the MS web server, or you can install Apache, which is open-source. IIS should come w/ Win2k3 but I don't know how to enable it. Apache can be downloaded by itself or you can find complete "web server" packages that include Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc. and require minimal configuration. __________________

Re: making webserverSomewhere in the IIS configuration files, there's a place where you can set the domain of your server. Since I don't use IIS, I can't tell you exactly where or how to change it. But when you find the file, just look for "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" which both indicate your current server's address. Then change it to whatever your domain name is.
