Re: A dedicated server for GIDNetwork sites

I just posted a GID Community blog entitled: A dedicated server for GIDNetwork sites.

Quote:
Soon, I will be moving all GIDNetwork web sites on to a dedicated server. :)

I started www.desilva.biz on a regular, shared hosting plan, way back in 2001. Within a year or so, I had already worked my way through 2 different web hosting providers until I "met" Scott from Vilitas.com sometime in 2002. read more...

Please let me know what you think.

Re: A dedicated server for GIDNetwork sites

This says a lot for the growth of Gidforums and your whole network - congrats. I have seen several cheap deals on WHT with some older hardware that datacentres are looking to get rid of. I would suggest taking your time and putting some thought into your budget and the server specs. You do want to be able to grow into this dedicated server and not have to upgrade/move servers too soon.

Let us know which provider you pick, what type of deal you get and if you are now going to enter the hosting business.

Re: A dedicated server for GIDNetwork sites

Thank you Div.

I did spend some time looking for the ideal package. Then, I did my usual, "stalk-my-future-web-host" thing for a while...

The provider I chose is WholesaleInternet.com and so far, everything is as smooth as I imagined it would be...

I really didn't get a powerful server, so I am not even sure how it will handle the traffic when I make the switch. However, I have a plan B, just in case...

Will I get into Web Hosting? No, the thought never even crossed my mind; not this time at least. I want to use it to develop new sites.. and maybe host some family and friends.

If you are reading this, then you are viewing the site off the new server.

Re: A dedicated server for GIDNetwork sites

I particularly like the way you spent time researching the hosts. People often don't protect themselves from the bad ones. Also, the way you made your decision will help me in talking to future potential clients because we also specialize in dedicated servers. Specifically, I mean how you appreciated talking to a real person. That's definitely very important, crazy how that one company's individual doesn't even sign their name. Good luck, great forum!

Regards,

Ilya
