Google toolbar 2.0 - Has popup blocker, Autofill and quick weblog posting features

Haven't tested this out yet, but you can find it at http://toolbar.google.com/index-beta

Still no mozilla/linux version

Oh this is great news... I would get it just for the pop-up-blocker-thingy.

I am also surprised they haven't done one for mozilla, as I see it, there is gradual increase in the number of mozilla users visiting this site. I am sure they're working on one...

Has it occurred to anyone that this is an extroadinary marketing ploy?

Release adsense

Days later release a beta of the toolbar that blocks popups. Advertisers are forced to change from popups to something that isn't blocked like e.g. Adwords.

Brilliant, I wonder how effective this idea will be.

No, I don't think it was a ploy... nobody likes pop-ups actually, including, I am sure, the webmasters who have them on their own sites as well.

It is more likely, they (Google) probably had the 'programme' to do that and decided simply that a lot of us MSIE users could do with what comes already included in Mozilla nowadays...

But I think that piece of news there was the mystery behind the purchase of that blogging thingy!

I think there are two reasons for the blogger purchase, 1) allow adwords to appear on the sides of peoples sites (whether they like it or not) and 2) this blog submission thing appearing in the toolbar.

I've heard a lot of people saying that they can deal with popups in Mozilla Firebird and Opera, because of the way it deals with them as tabs. IE on the other hand is streets behind and so Google's practically done the work for them.

Perhaps this may be true but I seriously doubt that they would stoop that low - they don't need to, if you think about it.

Lycos.co.uk launched Adsense in a frame and ruined a ton of sites...expect it to show up as it should work well with blogs.

I saw a lot of pretty bad screen shots on the Lycos boards a few days ago. Spawning frames that would take up the whole screen, forums that weren't accessible as you couldn't view the right side, etc.
