List of online service auctionsHello GIDForums,
We have a new website that has at least one redeeming feature - a list of online service auctions. These are the ones where you can post a project or bid on existing ones. It's at www.openoutsource.com The site is still a little rough round the edges and the logo / picture combination doesn't do it any justice and is due to be updated as soon as we can think of what to use, but we would like to hear your opinons nonetheless. The site is growing slowly, it is still early days but hopefully we might get some interested enough to register and join in. Shawn |

Hi Shawn welcome the GIDForums I hope you enjoy the forum and rest of the site.
You've got a major collection of online service auctions, perhaps so many that its outgrown the default postnuke setting. Perhaps some sort of sectioning would be useful (if its possible to differentiate the auction sites) to make it more manageable to browse. The more customisable it is and the easier it is to drill down to what the user wants, the more renound you will become. Perhaps some sort of checklist of the sites so that quick comparison is possible and will help drive the quality up of those sites lagging behind. I also check the GZIP level you have and I received a 98% saved message, which is the best I've seen so good on you for that. Rob |

Hello Shawn,
welcome to GIDForums™. Impressive site you've got there... you'll find success with it I am sure. How long has the site been up? __________________

Thanks Rob,
You are certainly right about the outgrowing part - I am almost at a point where I want to re-write it just for the auction information. The categorising and amount of information to display is becoming quite restrictive now. I must say it really was a surprise to us how many actually exist on the net - and I am still finding more... We were originally going to do just the same and build Yet Another Auction Service but looking around I think the ones that will survive will be the ones with added services to help the process run smoothly or concentrate on a target industry. In our forums someone suggested putting in a few bits of iconography to help distuinguish them like No. of projects, commisions etc. so we are looking at where to get (or even draw) some little icons to help that. The splitting up of them into categories is a good idea - I think that possibly some distinction could be made for IT, translations services, Construction or others. If anyone has any other ideas then let us know. The 98% compression is a pleasant surprise - isn't that really a measure of how much information is repeated ![]() |

Opensource commentsShawn.. Stumbled on your site and registered as an outsourcing service provider.
You have a great idea with your site as there are a mass of service auction sites and people nead an impartial way of rating these sites. The link to site traffic analysis and popularity is especially good. Plus we had a critical comment posted agains our site and I have already issued a change note to correct the flaw in our service. Keep up the good work and perhaps contact me via email for a chat andy dot mir at technical-outsourcing dot com |
