MySQL On Windows...

Hi,
I Installed Apache on my windows xp PC---> Works perfectly
Then i Installed PHP ---------> Works perfectly
Then i installed MySQL----------> Nothing works
when i try to start mysqld.exe(or mysqld-nt.exe) then it just opens a dos box with nothing in it and after a few secs it closes.
I tried to use winmysqladmin.exe but it seems like the server never starts.
MySQL.exe says he cant connect to localhost on port 3306...
Can any1 help me with this installation PLZ

Hi Splash,

For what it's worth, when I start MySQL, the DOS windows goes on and off for me too... that hardly means that MySQL has not started. I suppose just looking at all the running tasks will quickly verify that MySQL is indeed running...

Anyway, aren't you supposed to set up MySQL as a service on Win NT/2000/XP? I am unfamiliar with a Windows XP specific install to comment further.

Also, if you look at the files in your MySQL data directory (i.e. c:\mysql\data\), there should be a few log files, try to look them all up. I found one on mine with a .err extension that had what I think you're looking for (information on what might have gone wrong).

There was no .err file only 2 other directories(test(empty) and MySQL(a few files but no .err file in it) in that /mysql/data/

Perhaps this page might have some useful information if you haven't already gone through it yet:
