I hope they do!
Sounds like you pushed some component a little too far while overclocking. Good luck! GF |

"set to zero" feature which is prolly the same thing, but it's sounds different and it's takin' a while... so hopefully it'll erase my problem... will tell wat happenz... aight -peaces |

Handy (though probably not it's purpose - securely wipe confidential data?). I hope it works, but I still remain sceptical. For the clean installs of 3 OSes not to work, I'd have to be cruel to be kind & say: you've broke something!
But I've my fingers crossed for ya buddy. Since you can post, why not try www.memtest86.com that I've mentioned earlier & see if it picks up any problems on that front? GF |

Bad News~ We ended up taking my computer to a local guy who knew what to look for He kept it over night to check everything out, then when we went back to get it he told us what was wrong. He was able to reload WinXP for us but he kept getting back that we had only 256 RAM instead of 512 RAM. Then he tested them and found the one that went bad and took it out. But the Good News is that we can get our RAM card replaced for free since it is from Kingston Technology. So, I am gonna call them tomorrow and see how we can go about that. Thanks, Garth Farley!!! |

havin' it ruined was accually my thought from the beginnin', but my family/buddies said NO!
I'm like "take it to BestBuy and I'll just get new" They like "NO IT CAN BE FIXED! ... somehow..." Now It's messed up b4d! Repartitioning of crazy values has now messed it up to another degree... perhaps givin' it to my buddy for a week might salvage it. I could use it for a slave HDD perhaps... you think that's still an option? aight -peaces |

ram error?try running the pc with only the 256 in slot 1, if that is ok then you know there is nothing wrong with th ram. alternatively do a search and find a ram tester. check your MB manual - their could be a problem with using different ammounts, ie if you use 128, then only use multiples of 128 - this used to be a problem in older PCs i think. hope i have helped

Great threadThank you too all those who have provided information...I was about to resort to reformatting my hard disk...when I noticed that hardware may solve the problem...crazy stuff!!
I'll be trying to remove my RAM and hardware...this ntfs.sys problem occurred when I defragmented a few times...so I have no idea why it suddenly came about! My ram has been in place for ages... Thanks again...fingers crossed... |

Mmm...well, reinstalled everything on my spare hard disk...and not much of a problem! So it wasn't RAM etc...
Now...a thought may be, I HAD installed XP Windows SP2, so when I got me orginal XP disk out...that was replacing the ntfs.sys file with an OLD version...maybe that is the problem with the current Windows recommended repair method!! In any case, don't try installing too many new things if you run XP SP2 - or backup your system just in case beforehand! An innocent thing (in my case perhaps Warhammer 40k's demo game) might easily bugger things up! :-x Cheers |
