Question about HDTV as a monitor?

I'm thinking of trying to connect my HDTV to my computer as a monitor, what I needed to know is there anything that I need to know before I do this, like can my computer damage the tv? One thing I'm woundering about is the refresh rate and the Resolution can these if set wrong damage my tv?

Re: Question about HDTV as a monitor?

Hi,

Consult your HDTV manual for information on supported resolutions and refresh rates. It is theoretically possible to damage your TV if you apply unsupported resolutions and timings.

Re: Question about HDTV as a monitor?

If the TV is one of those "cool" ones that has a built-in VGA or DVI connector, then you should have nothing to worry about; just check the documentation for the max range.

If it doesn't have a standard computer adapter, then I assume the input will be either S-Video or RCA jacks. Most video cards don't have Component Out so I doubt you'd use that. If you're video card has a TV-out connector like S-Video (such as the ATI All-in-Wonder) then it shouldn't be an issue connecting it. Just double-check the card's manual to make sure it's all good.

Re: Question about HDTV as a monitor?

I have hooked up my 37 inch centrinos lcd hdtv up to comp and have had the resolution at 1360x768 at 75 hrz and it was fine. It had a VGA and DVI. You shouldnt have any problem!
