CD Burner help

I don't know if I can explain this but here goes:

I had a Sony CD burner on my system and then one day it just wasn't working. There is an indicator light on the front of the burner that goes on and stays on when the burner is working. Now the burner light blinks over and over again really fast. I can no longer burn anything. My system seems to read the burner when it loads up but the actually burner won't work. I have turned off my system and plugged in the burner and it will work for a little bit and then it will come up with an error message that the burner has been disconnected. I figured the burner was bad so I bought a new burner and the same problems occured. I hope someone can point me in a direction to correct this.

Thank you in advance.

Hey ironbrigade1863 and welcome to desilva.biz. Ok first I need to know what the model is for the burner (ex. Sony _____ what?)
and then also download the lastest drivers for the burner and install then most of the time this will solve alot of your problems. what software do you use to burn? If you can get me this information then I'll get right to work and try to find out whats wrong. But first I need to know the model and the software.

Hey pcx, thanks for the reply.

I am sorry I am not really smart when it comes to computers. I believe my burner is:

CD-R/RW Drive Unit
Model No. CRX160E

I use Nero burning software

Thanks again.

I did a search and I have I few links for you to try. First run the Diagnostics Tool to see if this drive is maybe bad as well. If you took it back to the place of purchase and got another one it may be bad too I've had it happen to me before. If the Diagnostics Tool say it ok then try updating to drives and if you have XP there is a patch for your drive as well as a few other patch you may need. I looked up a few reviews mix results so not much help but may be worth looking at. I'll continue to look for the answer but try these option and see if any of them help. If the Diagnostics Tool says it bad email sony tech support.

Here's the links

Few Reviews

Diagnostics Tool

Tech page

Let me know if any of this helps I'll keep look around to help but maybe one of these options will help you out.

One more question before you try these option that I gave you I need to know what that error message says. If you give me that I may be able to solve the problem much quicker.

I can't get the burner to load when I hook it up. Sorry I can't figure out what error it is giving me. The computer reads the burner but the actual burner won't work. I really appreciate you taking the time with this. I will try the diagnostic tool but I think it may be a lost cause.
Thank you very much.

I'm sorry its taken me so long to reply I'm unable to find the direct answer to you problem. I'm still working on it so I haven’t forgotten you. I haven't been able to find this problem online and I myself haven't ever heard of it before. It may be worth it to take that one back and try I different brand and see if you have the same problem although its up to you what you want to do. I'll keep trying and if I do find something I'll let you know

Thank you very much for the effort. I tried a friends burner and it wouldn't load either. I am wondering if it is a power issue with my system.
