No , Microsoft does not have a free upgrade from 95 to XP You definitely don't want ME . It's terrible . But chances are the laptop can't handle XP , it's probably too old .

Gee these smiley's are fun!

Holy Smilie Fest, please, you folks are killing me.

When I travel I take my dear old OmniBook 900 and W2K works like a champ! It of course has a sluggish old PIII but does the trick most of the time.

Sorry, just wanted to get in on the smilie fest!

Anyways, if you're still using floppies, your laptop is almost guaranteed not to handle XP. Your best bet would be to get a copy of Win2k on CD and load that. As Mark said, it will be slow but at least it will run. As long as you don't want to play FPS games on it, it should do what you want it to.

I had to reinstall XP Pro. I tried formating... when I go to boot up w/o the XP cd says missing NTFS... So put the CD in, asks if I want to boot from the CD...I hit enter, Starts the install. Asks If I want to format I press "Y" Then says will loose all data... I press "Y" again. Starts the install but a screen comes up, Setup was unable to loacate or load Internatioal settings INF, or the file is corrupt. Make sure location of Windows XP files is set correctly under advance options. The system cant read from the specifeid device. Any suggestions?

Is this a home-built system or store bought? Do you have any other boot discs you can use? Can you boot from floppy?
