Thats great....
I hope they didn't changed the db structure to much, I don't really enjoy it to see erros..... and if they changed the thread table to much I won't be able get the news to display on the main page.... But changing the code to something that works is the best feeling you can get |

I didn't know that you ran a vBulletin... but listing the latest posts on your homepage should be easy to re-do.
We shall see what vB3 has in store for us in a few hours... __________________

I don't run the vB myself....
I'm co-owner at www.madsims.net which has vBulletin. I also used the vB functions to parse the smilies and the bbcode. |

Anyway, I can't get to the site www.madsims.net ! Did you already unload vB2??? Allowee, if you ever feel you're in the mood, you know where you can send all your experimental themes! I myself will try to make a couple of fast-loading themes (minimal graphics) for us dialup users. __________________

Some interesting facts about vBulletin 3.0The size of the zip file = 1.2MB :O
vb2 had around 39 MySQL tables and vB3 will create 87 totalling around 3.5 MB of dbdata right out of the box. I downloaded the script today and played around the admin control panel a bit but didn't like the colours already - made me feel like a 13 year old designing his gaming site (imagine textarea backgrounds in really dark blue and template/html code in white and red!). It's still 'unfinished' according to the developers, so I will not rush to install it here. A quick scan of the vb support board today, I already noticed quite a number of bugs, so I'll skip this beta release or atleast till they're done with the as-yet-incomplete templating stuff since I am going to have to hack it to death (for my search-engine friends). FINALLY, they have 'attempted' to have some coding standards and uniformity, an improvement from their previous 'here-there-everywhere' coding style. The templating system looks good and I must commend them for that. Ofcourse, one of the first things I looked at was the BBCode functions and it is still lacking... The usual 'smilie attacks' inside code/php will continue to happen Some changes I can already foresee for this board and when it updates to vB3 - new urls e.g.:

Good news for me personally is that there is now a style choice for the Control Panel... no more red or yellow on dark blue! ![]() __________________

The problem with vBulletin is that it seems like it's being run by a group of 'amateur-kids-wanna-do-business-online' wannabes.
The owners of this script give this kid (who just happens to know some PHP, more than the average Joe, I must admit) a fancy title like 'Project Manager' (...then they had an after-thought, let's make that 2 titles!...) and 'Lead Developer' and this 'kid' starts to think to himself; "Oh how cool is that? I am a Sumthin-Mamager!". The bloke has NO CLUE what project management is all about - but nevermind, I am done trying to figure that one out a long, LONG time ago You should have seen the utter nonsense they created for themselves when they announced the first "Public Beta Release". They set a date, right? Then they announce it, right? They say June 13th, right? Then on the day itself (June 13th) when 300,000* people were trying to get to the site, asking "Are we there yet?"... these VB guys kept insisting that although they said June 13th, they didn't say what time! Pffft... Made me wanna throw up right then and there! Lately, they are experiencing some network issues due to some DDOS attacks - guess who is handling these issues right now instead of finishing his project? Right.... Eventhough it was announced way back in November of 2002 that vB3 will be launched soon, it's now one year and it's still simply, "soon...". This is why I had decided a long time ago that this will be my only copy of vB. When I am able to write my own (someday; NOT soon!), I may even sell this off. Oh yes, to answer your question Bobby, the new version will be launched soon! ![]() * I am exaggerating... __________________

Hehe. Thanks for the clarification. Was vB3 being released from the vb site? Or was it someone else who just improved vb2 and posted it as vb3 just to earn a couple thousand hits.
