Shana tova to all of GID members.

Hey guys,

I want to wish you all Shana tova (Hebrew for "Happy new year" ...).
I hope you have a wonderfull healthy year, with lots of interesting posts (don't forget the guidelines, Ahhh ?).
To the married portion of you I wish better luck in the next life,
and to the happier portion I wish continuance of simple life

Best of luck to you all, don't drink too much, don't use (illegal) drugs and keep it simple as it is.

Love you all,
Kobi.

Hi Kobi and thank you (I think).

So the Hebrew new year is in October? I did not know this. Is there any reasoning or signifacance behind this? I am historically challenged. Sorry.

Also, I moved this to the open discussion forum as it seemed more appropriate here.

Thanks.

Thanks for the well wishes Kobi. Is there a Hebrew response that goes with that? Sort of the customary return of wishes.

Awww, don't knock the partnership thing, it can be most rewarding to have someone to share life with.

BTW, what exactly does the following mean.

Thank you for the kind wishes Kobi and Shana tova to you too...

When I was working in Sharm El Sheikh, I used to meet a lot of Isrealis but I never knew that your New Year was in October! Is it always on the 2nd of October?

Well, the truth is that here, in Israel, we live according to two calenders : the gregorian (as all of the globe does) and the hebrew one (Said to be set down at
359 AD).Now, the hebrew calendar consists of 12 months (I will not bother you with the names as it is hard to pronounce in english), and the hebrew new year happens at the first day of the hebrew month "Tishrey".
It doesn't match the same day of the gregorian calendar every year. That is mainly because of the way leaped years are handled by the two methods.

You guys take the day off at sunday, right ? go to church and stuff.
Well "Shabat" is simply saturday, and that is the day we don't work.
And yes, "Shabat shalom" is more than a simple shalom ... You say it to people you respect

Kobi.

This is very likely my favorite thing about the eclectic group of Members here at GIDForums™. I get to learn nifty little things more often then my little town exposure would normally allow. I like to think it is slowly but surely making the world a better place. Even if that isn't true, I'll still believe it anyhow.

Well, Shana tova Kobi, I wish you the best in the new year! I have always felt that treating others with respect has it's own rewards. (not that I always succeed, but I do try)
