Hi

Please Help!

I am trying to set up a website and forum for my mate Katie. She's a singer/songwriter..and we're wanting to set up a site for her to showcase her material.

The only thing is we know very little about building a website.. we've been looking around at other websites.. and have an idea of what we want.. we also need it to be free-hosted(if thats the word).

I was wondering if there is anyone on here who could please give us some advice.

Getting the free hosting is not really a problem anymore. You can probably get an account and some space to host a site quite easily e.g. http://www.gidforums.com/t-7005.html.

The important thing is to figure out, very early on, if you are going to require some sort of server-side scripting e.g. PHP. This will allow you to interact (forums) with your fans and supporters.

Being a music related web site you may want to consider using Flash, so you may offer song samples and such.

One of my favourite music/artiste related site on the WWW is www.reneeolstead.com. You can view it for some inspiration. It's elegant, simple, fast-loading and I became an immediate FAN! It was the ONLY time I visited a web site for the first time and I was glad that my speakers were ON!
