Requesting a Review of my website

development.ourfamilygenealogy.com

This is a work in progress (What website isn't). Anyway this is a genealogy website that I am revamping for my family and any other families who want to contribute information. The focus is to try to link family genealogies using surnames and other information.

I am revamping the site for 2 reason, the old one was not very functional and it was not very optimized for Search engines. Can you please review the site and offer suggestions on the current layout, (not much there) and how I can better optimize for search engines. Thank you for any input you can offer.

Re: Requesting a Review of my website

Hi,
Nice site, you must be new?
The design isn't crash hot.. I know I'm being harsh, but I do design work etc, and putting it from that point of view, it isn't the best.
But keep it up! Keep trying! Never give up, I like the menu, nice and fancy and the colours changing each page..

I appreciate your input and understand, I am new but am trying to make it functional and semi ok looking. Do you have any recomendations on what I can do? My main focus is to make it SEO for the surnames.

I'm not much at SEO.. So I can't help you there, but I can't really say, as long as you like it, what matters..

Re: Requesting a Review of my website

If the objective of the new design is to search engine optimise the web page, you are going about it the wrong way.

JavaScript-only links? That's like committing search engine suicide

Re: Requesting a Review of my website

I am actually moving away from the Java Script and moving to CSS or partial CSS. As for the content of the site, it is still a work in progress and I want to make sure I have the completed portion done properly. I intend to have the menues redone in CSS in a couple days I will repost to this post when I have that portion done and I am working on modyfying the meta tags and keywords as well.

The page is rather boring. Spice it up a little bit. I would like to maybe see some old family photographs, and some graphics. You have that one little picture at the bottom, I would say put at least one more in the main area of the page. Maybe even a mini slide show.

Re: Requesting a Review of my website

I would say that the site might look a little better in a black bg and white/silver text... but then again i never do anything different to that

Good work though, keep it up!

Very plain, but it's clean and easy to read... great for the older crowd...
