Review, please dogcatec.com

Soon we are going to open a new store selling pet supplies, veterinary supplies and vaccines, pet medications etc. We tried to make a proper design for this store, something close to veterinary subjects and at the same time unique and attractive.

Could you, please, review it before we open a store? It’s www.dogcatetc.com

I just took a look at your site and I like it... It laid out in an easy to use format with easy access to the primary animal catergories along with an easy to locate search section. The Featured products section appears to me to be a little cluttered but other then that it seems pretty good.

Re: Review, please dogcatec.com

Here's my observations, for what it's worth:
  1. The "Shop By" drop down list should be white to make it obvious it's a user-interactive feature.
  2. I think there should be some space between the center column and the side columns. Especially on the left side, the pictures crowd into the main products and make it look too busy.
  3. I'd recommend moving the text describing your site (found under the large "Add to Favorites" icon) to the top of the page, probably where you currently have the "Not open for business" text.
  4. In my browser (Opera 8.5) the text for "cattle/sheep" is not centered on the blue background, creating a large white line through the word "sheep".
  5. The "Pet of the Month" contest doesn't explain the rules, such as how the winner is chosen. I like the idea and the pictures are cute.
  6. The default text size is a touch small. You might want to consider making it 10-12 px so it's easier to read; older people visiting your site might not be able to physically read it.
  7. If you're serious about the "Add to Favorites" link, then I'd suggest modifying it so it's cross-browser compatible.
  8. I can't figure out the product views. Sometimes they're listed vertically (e.g. http://www.dogcatetc.com/cat-furniture-pet-steps.html) and other times they're listed as a table (e.g. http://www.dogcatetc.com/cat-furnitu...kommodes.html). Same thing for product listings (e.g. http://www.dogcatetc.com/cat-furniture.html vs. http://www.dogcatetc.com/cat-products.html). I'd pick one version and use it for all just for site consistency.
Well, those are the big things I noticed in the last 15 minutes or so. The overall site design looks very good and it's reasonably easy to navigate around. Because the site is so large, you might want to have a Site Map included, if you don't have one already.

Good luck!

The header looks great, really professional It's a bit crammed but still easy to navigate, if you designed the whole site, good job!
