Question

Question about domain names

Here's the situation : I've registered kilgayne.com and icestarsoftware.com some years ago and now they're both expired but according to whois.com I couldn't re-register them yet.

Now my question is : when we register a domain name and it expires, can it be used back or is it taken for good?... Like, if I register "adomainthatsnottakenyet.com" for one year, in two years, could it be registered by someone else? I'm not sure to understand exactly how it works yet. :-?

Re: Question about domain names

Once a domain name registration expires, it becomes available to all. Anyone can now register it, including you. If it has not yet been taken, go for it.

Regards,

Will

Re: Question about domain names

Sorry I didn't reply to this thread earlier Kilgayne but I was busy with the forum upgrade and some other stuff.

I am no expert but I know something about expired domains.

According to this page: http://www.enom.com/domains/whois.as...3&subm it.y=5
your domain name's status is set to REDEMPTION PERIOD which basically means nobody including the registrar is able to renew this domain at this time.

I think you may renew this domain right now but it will cost you a special fee e.g. $120, to renew it. Otherwise you can wait for the status to change, which should be any day now and then it will be a free for all. IOW, the first person to grab it will get it. If it has any kind of traffic and Google PageRank, don't be surprised to find it registered (by some bulk domain buyer, no doubt) as soon as it's available again.

Re: Question about domain names

Uh oh! Bad news... it's $160 actually.

Quote:
eNom Redemption Period Process
  • Once deleted from our database, it falls into the 30-day holding status called Redemption Period at VeriSign and NeuLevel, (called Pending Delete at PIR.org).
  • Should you want to retrieve the domain during Redemption, there is a fee to you plus the cost of the renewal for all TLDs.
  • Only the previous registrant has the right to request the domain back. All others must wait until the registry drops the domain.
If you wish to retrieve a .com or .net domain during Redemption from your account
  • Login to your eNom account and choose menu option DOMAINS
  • Click my domains and choose the redemption link
  • Select the doman from the list and click add to cart
  • Proceed through checkout and purchase
  • There are no refunds on redemptions.
  • There are two stages of Redemption. After your domains expire, you may find them under Extended Redemption Grace Period, or Redemption Grace Period. Prices vary according to account and currently range from $160 per domain name, depending upon status. Prices may change at any time.
