GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005I am still behind schedule but I may go ahead and upgrade the forums on the 21st of September, 2005 i.e. in a couple of days.
Depending on your time-zone, you may find the site closed for the duration of the upgrade late Tuesday / early Wednesday. I expect some errors to happen very soon after the upgrade and I will appreciate your feedback if you notice any such errors yourself. Thank you. ![]() |

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005I like the changes. The icons are more colorful and bigger, hence easier to see and click. The pages look "slicker". Nice!

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005So far, no problems. Although the Guideline Sticky is less 'in your face' now. It needs to be more prominent. Also, is the [guideline] tag ready? And what is it's exact format now?
Also, during EDIT, attempting to delete a message doesn't work, it only make the edit message sub-window grow wider. Are there really over 60 'guests' logged in? __________________

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005Thank you for the feedback guys. The upgrade is far from over and I STILL have lots to do.
Mostly, I am focusing my attention on the modifications you probably rarely notice, i.e. the search engine optimisation stuff. At the same time, I will work to fix some "display" errors as well, especially with the bugs I introduced to the custom bbcode handler with the latest version of the script. Over the next few days, I will be working on the following things:
If you encounter a link that doesn't work, please reply with the details here inside this thread. WaltP: I will work on the guideline tag as soon as possible. About the "guests" comment -- we have always had a lot of guests on the forum. This time, I decided to to turn ON the option to show where they were at (on the homepage). |

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005Update:
The Google Sitemap is done. The smilies are done. I will work on fixing the custom bbcode errors today. __________________

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005I noticed that you have a new drop-down for changing pages, which is good, because I can't change pages by clicking the "page number" anymore. Don't know if it's a problem on my end or not, though I haven't had this problem before.

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005Yes, this is the type of feedback I am looking for!
Can you tell me the url of the web page where the multi-page links do not work? I actually focusing on a few select page types for now i.e.
If you can, also paste the HTML (for the invalid links), so I can figure it out a lot faster. |

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005Update:
The custom bbcode errors/bugs have been fixed.. at least I hope so I was going to add custom bbcode for some other languages e.g. Ruby, VB.net but I decided to put them on hold for now. I spent some time today re-doing the page navigation links and I think it works much better now. If you STILL find something I missed, of course, please let me know. |

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005So far the only thing I'm not fond of is the little box for CODE. I preferr the code be displyed inline so I could see enough of it to read without scrolling. But then, of course, when someone posts "War and Peace", it does limit the scrolling to get past the code... Can't please a human, I guess.
Or better yet, can the vertical size of the box be adjusted to be at least 2-3 times it's current maximum? __________________

Re: GIDForums upgrade scheduled for 21 Sep 2005You're not the first person to comment about this and I appreciate it.
I have plans to introduce the option for you to widen the box (at least). I just haven't decided how to manage this, so it's convenient for you ("you" as in logged in members). |
