Communication Error - Pioneer 109 DVD Burner

As a PC tech you are faced with some unusual problems and the last one I had was a pain. New 109 Pioneer installed and subsequent error message displayed through the Nero log: "Comunication Failure" although this message is not uncommon and the fixes are well known along comes a new one.

The PC has an Intel motherboard, four cd/dvd drives, two hard drives etc.

Previous to the Pioneer install a Sony 510 burner was installed with no apparant burn issues except that the media could not be read on a number of players, so this is why the Pioneer was purchased.

The fault showed up as:- Initial burn was OK and any subsequent burn fell over with above error message. Restart PC and same thing happens. Finally after a lot investigation the PC was formatted (Had lots of errors in system files) only to give the same resulting error with only Nero installed.

Having six IDE drives on board meant an additional IDE Controller was necessary, changing the DVD Burner and Reader to the PCI IDE controller fixed the problem and burning at 12x speed (80 wire cable fitted) was no problem. This lead me to believe that the onboard IDE Controller drivers were not good enough on the Intel board. Have looked for improved Drivers on both Microsoft and Intel (no luck). Anyone know of a source?

The media used is Ritek 8X (although it burns at 12x in Pioneer)

Have posted this for information for anyone who is having similar issues. The burner now works fine
