My Vaio gets about 1/3 of the way booted up then the message appears:

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup CD-ROM select "r" at the first screen to start repair
Status- system32/drivers/ntfs.sys

I have a Sony Vaio PCV-RX830 that comes with 6 recovery disk and when I try to restart my whole computer over starting with disk 1 , the process goes for about 10 minutes then the following message appears:

Status: cannot normally execute the initial setting of partition information this utility exits and your computer is rebooted.

I have tried all the other disks too and it does not do anything but display the first message.

I do not see any spot where I can select "r" either at the beginning of the 1st recovery disk

Is there any way I can get my computer running normal again?

I tried using my vaio recovery disks and ran into the same problem with the same error message... it was fixed by removing my printer from my computer and then using the disks as suggested. you can use the "safely remove hardware" tool to make sure all hardware is removed (printers, zip drives, iPods, cameras, etc.) i guess the recovery software disks are finicky about these things. maybe that's what "system32/drivers/ntfs.sys" is referring to, but i can only guess; i'm not that tech savvy! good luck
