What do you know about SPEWS.ORG?

I have been following this issue with Burst.net and SPEWS.org with great interest.

I found a link to a thread here (don't ask me why, I have no clue either!) from that link and this is the ONLY reason why I found about that thread in the first place, so yeah...

It has been quite interesting to find out what these people at SPEWS do - or do you agree with the Burst.Net camp?

For your information: SPEWS = Spam Prevention Early Warning System

For bursts defence I agree with:

Well, they should clearly state that in their FAQ then, cause as it is, I feel any progress we make towards cleaining up our network is falling on deaf ears.

Unfortuately, I have no faith in an organization operating without clearrules and guidelines, that they will. They have done nothing to make me believe that any of our actions will have any affect on our listings, and in fact have done everything to lead us to believe that opposite holds true, and that they will not result in such updates/delistings.

and this is the best one:
Azoogle has *PUBLICLY*ADMITTED* that they do -not- use 'closed-loop,
confirmed, opt-in'. That *ANYBODY* can sign up _any_ address for
any mails.

If their own admission of an OFFICIAL POLICY of sending unwanted, unsolicited, mass email is not a sufficient 'breach of contract' as regards violation of your TOS/AUP for you to act, then you _deserve_to have your entire network listed.

Against:

Quote:
> Why should we bother?

Because you still host spammers?
Because it is in your business interests to be a white-hat company?
Because your company policy and ethics say so?
Because you want to give good service to your other customers?
Because you want to have a good reputation?
Because you want to be a good Internet-neighbour to your peers?

The spammer is responsible for his own abuse.
His provider is responsible for all their spammers' abuse. The
scumbag who hosts multiple spam hosts is responsible for all the
spammers and the spam support.

and

In other words, think of the current listing as a widened Azoogle
listing. Spammers hosted = SPEWS listing warranted, however wide

p.s. why on earth are all the links and titles written like someone with a speech impediment: Post a fowwow-up to dis message
ahh this explains it: http://groups.google.com/webhp?tab=g...-8&hl=xx-elmer
