Lynx.

Even though I love and use Opera, I don't think it will ever get the numbers it deserves. Personally, I think it depends on how well people are trained. It's easier to use what's already installed rather than install something new, so I'm betting IE will still reign supreme.

I do think Firefox will get 1/4 to 1/3 of the numbers because of the computer geek crowd and because IE7 will only be available to OS upgraders. Thus FF will be the logical choice for people happy with their current systems.

I agree with your assessment, CL.

I use opera when using Linux. But mostly I use IE. Here's the result from my website's stats:
1. MSIE 6,278
2. Mozilla 628
Although Opera identifies as MSIE but I believe that the number of opera users is insignificant compared to IE's and the present tells you a lot about the future.

Currently my web counter only tracks the last 100 visits (I'm too cheap to buy the 1,000 hit version right now). My counts fluctuate between Firefox and IE, with IE being higher on average by 2-1. Opera appears every so often but only at about 10%, along with Safari.

I'm hoping that the next version of Opera (8.1) will change these stats a little bit, since it won't appear as IE by default anymore.

There are too many computer noobs around. Thus IE would always be the most predominant one. 50% of my msn list have to ask me how to enable pop up blocker, cookies, how to take screen shot, where are my program files located -.-|| Mostly girls i would say =) unless they have an elder brother or someone who is gd in computing, they would stick to IE.

Firefox is a must to me. its highly configurable. And i love the range of extension available for downloads!!!!

IE. I use and love firefox, but I spend a lot of time explaining to my grandma for the 50th time how to use the google search engine. People like that wouldn't be able to find the install file for firefox, let alone install and use it. Damn the accursed Microsoft monopoly!

The article states that the commercial entity is so the Mozilla software can be marketed to corporations, e.g. computer makers. They couldn't do that before because of their non-profit status. FF and Thunderbird will still be free.
