Home Wireless Network ProblemNot sure whether this should be in the hardware or software forum...
I have just recently install a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router w/ 4-port Switch a home. It is setup beside the desktop computer (with Windows XP home) for wired connection...Desktop computer with internet a success! Next, on to the first notebook (with Windows XP Pro) for wireless. Has an intel wireless adapter built into it. Setup wireless with 64-bit WEP key and successfully installed internet to it! Now...next on the second notebook (** with Windows 2000) for wireless. Installed a new Linksys WPC54GS Wireless-G Notebook Adapter with SpeedBooster. Easy setup with the included CD-rom and installed with the 64-bit WEP key. However, the adapter status says it is connected to the Router but no Internet connection found. Looking at the connection properties on notebook, it says the wireless adapter is sending packets out but recieving no packets back. Reinstalled drivers downloaded from Linksys....stilll no internet. Very upsetting....worked no problem with the Windows XP computers but not 2000. I'm a novice at Windows 2000 so I'm not sure what the problem is. Is there a built-in firewall with 2000 that I do not know about? Any help would be great! Thanks for your time. |

Hi crassbones,
Are you sure that the speedboost version is compatible with the original WRT54G? Regards, Andy. |

Does the 2k machine ever get an ip, gateway, and dns if using DHCP?
can you ping any other machine on your local network? It sounds like it connects ok wirelessly to the router, but doesn't get an ip to route packets to the net etc. unless your Default Transmit Key isn't the same. I'm not sure if stock firmware in the router can change that or not. |

Re: Home Wireless Network ProblemAre you sure you have the same SSID in all of your devices?
Do you have TCP/IP installed and DHCP enabled on the win-2k pc? Try comparing network configurations; on the win-2k pc & the wireless xp pc click start/run then type 'ipconfig /all' (then enter or return). confirm they are operating within the same sub-net. |
