Access 2000

how do you view an Access database from the web. I know it can be done but I'm not sure how.

Thanks

Well being that Microsoft is the way that they are, I believe you must use .ASP to read a Access DB. I know I have seen it done using ASP but I would be greatly suprised if you could use any other programing language like php or perl to do this being as Microsoft doesn't support these other languages. You can also use the "pages" within Access if you want but these are a little less user friendly then just writing the code.

Not sure if any of this is helpful, but have a look at http://www.justphukit.com/access/access-tutorials-1.php it may need asp.net though.

Access works with the ODBC driver, and PHP has odbc functions. There's a few open source drivers that'll work, do a Google search!

Don't you need to be hosted on a Windows Server for Access 2000 to be available?

You can put the .mdb file on any server that you would like, the trick becomes how the server will treat the file. On a Unix/Linux based box it might be tricky to get an ODBC DB to work at all, when on a windows server ODBC is built in and essential for the Windows box to run. You might be able to use some kind of ODBC package for PHP, but it as with anything microsoft it will run better and be easier to write if everything is Microsoft.
