Re: Beginning Python Tutorial (Part 1)

I just posted a GID Community blog entitled: Beginning Python Tutorial (Part 1).

Quote:
Since I'm starting to learn Python programming for my Colonial Marines RPG, I thought I might as well make a tutorial for others while I'm at it. Since I'm a beginner Python programmer, I figured I'd be in a good place to show others how to use the language, my thoughts on it, and what mistakes I've made and learned from.

I have programmed before (C, C , Java) for college but nothing really serious. I didn't really like the low-level work involved with C/C and Java, as my first programming class in school, didn't make any sense. Hopefully Python won't be as bad. read more...

Please let me know what you think.

Thank you very much Crystalattice...

When I read on your website that you were dabbling in Python, I was going to ask you to write a tutorial but you beat me to it. I am interested to figure out this language too... I mean, if Google is using it, it must be something!

I look forward to Part 2.

I am also looking forward to opening a Python Forum here if there is enough interest in the future.

I would even be interested to write a syntax highlighter for the language if we go that route.

I'm hoping there is enough interest to start a Python forum. I think it will be fun and useful to learn. It shouldn't be too difficult to make the syntax highlighter, since Python is derived from C; I imagine very little would have to be changed from what you already have.

I'd be up for a Python board. I started learning it a couple years ago and got about half-way thru the book. A board may give the push to finish it.

Bad timing
I was trying to pick between Python and Ruby the other week - which should I learn? I picked Ruby, since it looks a lot like Lisp... OK, maybe I could have a change of hearts
Python it is!

Best regards,
Lucian

Dohhh!

Actually, after I learn Python I was going to learn Ruby, because Ruby on Rails sounds pretty interesting for web sites. Same coin, different sides.
