Burner problem

I have an Iomega Hotburn drive which has stopped working. It may have started after downloading Microsoft Critical Updates.

I have Windows 98 version 1 and a USB 1 not 2

I have tried to open the Burner CD drawer by pressing the button and it will not open although everything is connected. Does that sound like a driver problem please? There may be later Drivers from Iomega which I could download and I have not attempted this yet.

Is it visible in My Computer? How about Device Manager? I would recommend getting new drivers; it's possible the original ones got corrupted but you can't reinstall them, obviously.

Burner problem

It is in My Computer.

Surely though if the burner is not broken and I were to connect it to any mains socket (without any computer connection at all) I should be able to open the drawer by pressing the drawer button. OR must ther be a PC driver to open it at all.

See if there's a small hole on the front of the drive; if there is, you can use a paperclip to poke the hole and manually eject the tray. It might just be the drive seized up somehow and needs a little help to work correctly.

alcedo will become famous soon enough
actually, that sounds more like a hardware problem to me rather than a software problem
