Has anyone tried Google Sitemaps? Its been a few weeks since Google launched its Sitemaps service (https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login). It describes the service as:
Quote:
The basis behind it is to help Googlebot find more of your webpages and have fresher results. Has anyone here tried Sitemaps? If so how hard was the implementation and what is your impression of the service? Have you seen any impact on your Google traffic? |

I have not tried them yet or even read much about them as of yet. Lets see how it all goes.

I have no immediate plans to figure it out or to even consider using it for my sites.
I think it's extremely useful if you have a dynamic web site with query strings attached to each link within your site. Maybe you have an added bonus of specifying which pages are supposed to be crawled more regularly but from the little I read (about the service) when they first launched it, they make no guarantees that such data will be honoured. It's not worth the effort or the time for me to get into it -- at least for now. __________________

QuestionHi,
JdS what exactly do you meen by: "I think it's extremely useful if you have a dynamic web site with query strings attached to each link within your site." Do you think that it is VERY important that your links looks something like: mypage.com/page.php?id=10&description=Description+of+Page or is sufficent: mypage.com/page.php?id=10 Thank you. |

My opinion is that it is NOT necessary to have the description in the url. Some people I know, will disagree with me of course. It may put you at a slight advantage I suppose but not something you want to spend a lot of effort setting up.
However, the shorter the query strings the better it is, at least it is very unlikely that your pages end up in the dreaded supplemental results index. Quote:
I think you know this already but never use ID= in your query strings if you want to attract the spiders. |
