Question

Looking for a free host with phpBB support

I signed up for one free host and it is now being investigated by the parent company (it was a reseller) and my account is gone. So, now I need a new host and I'd like suggestions of any hosts that have been around a long time (that way it's not likely the host will suddenly disappear).

I need:

Full phpBB support
-- I need full access for adding my own mods, updating on my own, editing my MySQL database, etc... I wouldn't mind having the forum installed automatically (in un-modded form), but I don't want to have to deal with pre-installed mods.

100MB+ Space
1GB+ Bandwidth
Domain hosting (or nameserver management... I don't mind it being hosted on register.com if the nameserver of the host will manage it)
10 subdomains (forum.mydomain.com, for example)
cPanel
Regular backups
No cancellation of account if I don't login regularly
No requirements for posting in anyone's forum
No ads in any form
PHP 4x
MySQL
-- 2 databases, about 20MB each? Maybe more space... not really sure how much a typical forum would need. I need space to handle a minimum 5000 forum messages total with 200 members (and many mods on the forum, so a lot of extra space needed per member) at any given time
At least one POP account using my domain name (mail@mydomain.com or something... more is good, but not necessary)

And, I need it to be free per month and free setup, and not a trial account. I'd prefer instant activation as well, if possible. I want to get online again asap.

If you know of anything good, please post the link and the features it has. These are the minimum features that I will need, so I don't need to get information about anything that doesn't have at least this much.

Thanks.

Thumbs up

hmmm

hmm i think i found a service pretty close to your requirements
www.5gigs.com

i think they have everything they need except the 2 databases they supply one and only 80 megs of space but 5gigs of bandwidth and i doubt with only 2 forums you'll take up 100megs enless u have 100000 post? but for the other database you could easily just host one at freesql.org

Thank you for the reply... unfortunately, they don't allow me to use my domain name. Regarding the space, I also have a website to host... not just a forum. Still, 80MB would probably work as far as that goes. I may have one that will work... but I am having issues with their MySQL. We'll see if it gets straightened out or not. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I'll keep that in mind. Right now, I'm using the djlhosting and having good luck with them so far. If that doesn't work out for some reason, I'll check you out. Thanks.

Well, all these web hosters have bad sub-domains. I need a short subdomain. I much prefer this site the best!
