Free Web Host FAQ v4

Host F.A.Q.

This is the Free Host FAQ that I created for FreeWebspace.net. I decided to post it here too, as it might help someone out.

To first-time users: Please take a look at the "User's Guide" before venturing into the actual FAQ. It provides valuable information on the various terms that I have used. After you are done with that, please search through the FAQ thoroughly. If there is nothing in the FAQ that matches your request, then post a new thread on the forum.

USER'S GUIDE.................................................. .........................

Most hosts are categorized by the amount of disk space that they offer. For example, Netfirms falls into the 16-30 MB category because it offers 25 MB of disk space. They may also be categorized by:
  • Strict Application: These hosts may require that a user first make a certain amount of posts on their forums. They may also have a rigorous system of limiting signups and reviewing all applicants by hand.
  • Region Restrictions: These hosts either ban traffic or restrict signups from certain regions. It is generally recommended that you try other hosts first and use these as a last resort, as chances are that they may restrict signups from your country.
You may also notice various symbols used throughout the FAQ:
  • * No FTP
  • ' Forums are not allowed, even though they offer a scripting language.
  • (#) Number of POP3 Accounts Offered

For example, you will only get 20 POP3 e-mail accounts after reaching the Nemesis ranking (500 posts). You can find out more about this system http://www.u69.us/viewtopic.php?t=168.

Some of these hosts may be blocked by the governments of certain countries. For example, in the People's Republic of China, Geocities, Netfirms, Angelfire, Tripod and Brinkster are currently blocked, although these bans may be removed at any time.

Great post CM!

Yep you could say that was a huge oversight from me although I even read it before. It does go to show that cross referencing can be useful though.

Here's a free (strict application) ASP host http://freehosting.rbftpnetworks.com/ subdomain only

and http://www.dotnetplayground.com/

Information for u69.us is incorrect ...

The information in the post at the top of this thread is
ABOUT 3 YEARS OUT OF DATE !!!!!

All of the information given above about "U69.US" is completely wrong !!!!

I am the head administrator for CLUBHOST.US which is the FREE hosting
service that used to be called U69.US a long time ago and was called
AMZWEB.NET before that. The old "U69.US" address still redirects to
our current www.clubhost.us web address.

(We dumped "u69.us" for the forum URL because people kept thinking it
was a porno site instead of a FREE hosting service in error)

In total, we have now been open for a total of 7 years continuously, despite
name changes on 4 occasions, making us one of the oldest and longest lived
of all the FREE hosting services out there.

We do require posting but it is only 25 posts .... not 500 / Nemesis
listed above to gain all of the hosting account features although we are
very strict that those posts cannot be spam.

We do allow signups from any location without limitation but the applicant
must be able to speak English well as all sites are required to be in English.

The current hosting account specifications as of the time of this post are ...

Unlimited Web Space
w/ 10 GB Data Transfer
PHP v4.3.4+ Scripting
ASP (Available on Request)
Server Side Includes (SSI)
1 POP3 Email Account
w/SPAM Protection
w/Web Based Access
Plesk Control Panel
Webalizer Daily Statistics
MySQL v4.0.16+ Database
Both FTP and Web Based Uploads
Custom Error Pages
Password Protected Folders
Supports Domains and Subdomains
NO ADS WHATSOEVER!
