Infogrames - SilverHi everybody.
I noticed another thread about this game (Silver), but decided to post a new thread because my problem is different. I used to play this game on Windows 98 and it worked fine, but when I try to play on XP there is a problem. Whenever there is moving water in the game, horizontal lines appear across the screen at the height at which the water is meant to be. To clarify, if there is water in the bottom half of the screen, then the bottom half of the screen will just have horizontal lines going through it, in which you can make out the same image of the water repeated several times. The sound is fine, and the game is technically playable, but this really ruins it for me, and I wonder if anyone can help me. I've tried running compatibility mode, VDMS, and it solves nothing. The crazy thing is I put it back on my Windows 98 PC, and everything works fine. Thanks in advance. |

I've got a 256MB Sapphire X850, with the latest drivers. I haven't checked my direct x yet, but I'll do that now. Thanks for the suggestion.

Checking fileplanet, the only patches is a bug fix for the US version - which I don't have. So the game is as updated as I can get it.

Re: Infogrames - Silverthere is no fix for silver in xp , running in xp compatibility mode works on few occasions so heres the fix , the game just doesnt run on NTFS
this worked for me -> download microsoft virtual pc microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx its free for 45 days and isnt really expensive. its a little like an emulator but alot not. all you need to do is install it then set up a new "virtual machine" onto this virtual machine put windows 95 98 or god forbid it windows ME... once you have set up and installed the pc install silver onto the "virtual PC" ( you wont need drivers etc for you devices on the "virtual pc" it will just work =$ )this way you can load your normal XP/2k or what ever and you dont need to re-partition your drive and have a 2 OS on it to get complete backwards compatibillity for anything , your new OS will run in a window and you can even have several machines for different things. so yes get virtual pc and see if you can get a hold of a backdated windows cd and you will be laughing. this requires knowledge of installing older windows operating systems but to be honest its pretty self explanitory |

Re: Infogrames - SilverGodFish I need your instructions on that.
I have the game Silver in 2 cd's (copy) I have created the virtual pc and the win 98 inside. It works great. I also installed the game in the virt. pc win98. Unfortunaely it doesn't work. Nothing happens, not even a message whatsoever. I found a few patches but nothing happend. With the first cd1 you can install tha game without having to use the second cd. So I don't understand the relevance of the second cd to the whole game. When should I put the second cd? Is that the reason for not working at all? I installed the game and then I copy pasted the contents of the second pc to the extracted files in the folder Silver. Also nothing happend. PLease tell me a way that worked for you so that I can follow it. thanks. (Note it worked once in Pure Win 98 (No virtual PC) but I had to download a crack icon to work it. But now nothing works. thanks |

Re: Infogrames - Silverhave you checked the devices in the virtual pc and ran windows update for the virtual pc ? the 2nd disk is used later in the game. i have an orriginal copy of the game, if you are using a pirated version it may not work. also check the colour depth and screen resolution on the virtual pc and make sure you allocated enough ram to run the os + a bit more for games etc+ so 98 needs 64 megs set it to 96.
im not sure what the problem could be , as i have never had a problem running any old game in virtual pc , whats your hardware ? |
