Re: Who likes to get a line wet?

I just posted a GID Community blog entitled: Who likes to get a line wet?.

Quote:
On Father's day I went out and did a little pond fishing. It is a privately owned pond and the owners are more than happy for the help it getting some of the fish out of it. Just goes to show what stopping and talking to people can get you. Now I have a little place about 10 minutes or so from my house that I can stop at whenever I like.

Granted, pond fishing gives a smaller yield (at least until the herd is thinned) but they tend toward violent agression. Show me a fresh water fisherman that doesn't like to catch smallmouth bass and I'll show you a saltwater fisherman. ... more.

Please let me know what you think.

Those sure are some ugly fish you got there, Mark!

They probably just wanted to kill themselves and that's how they ended up in your hook! Being turned down by all the she-fishes must have made them depressed enough to commit suicide!

OK, I never went fishing... My dad taught me how to play chess...

Catching 25 fish in 4 fours is probably exciting, but I don't understand those guys that just seat with the fishing rod for hours without catching anything, and they enjoy it! And nobody around them is even allowed to talk! (real-life incident)
Maybe I don't get the whole fishing philosophy...

I didn't know what you mean by "jumpers", so I ran a quick search. It seems those guys really put up a fight when caught. Now see, this is fun: I'd sure want to wrestle one of these creatures!
The ones I got in the aquarium don't look very aggressive; I think I could take them all on!

Seriously, thanks for the article; it was really interesting.
All this talk about fish has made me hungry. Maybe they aren't that ugly after all!

Best regards,
Lucian

MMMMM, but they were tasty once I relieved them of their skin and bones.

Hey hey now! The coalition for de-ulgifying of freshwater fish may have a problem with that statement.
How about, beautifully challenged non-saltwater dwelling creatures...

If someone said something like,

See that, you learned your new thing for the day. I wish I had my camera with me the day that one really fought back. I had landed one and when I grabbed her by the lower jaw so I could remove the lure I slipped a bit. Stupid brain/reactions kicked in and I grabbed at the fish with my left hand. One of the treble hooks (a hook with three points as a unit) buried into the web between my thumb and forefinger. All the way in. Hmmm, now I had a fish attached to the front treble and my hand attached to the back. It took a bit of "field surgery" to take care of that situation.

Don't let those fish in your aquarium fool you. They might just be biding their time to gang up on you when you are sleeping.

Thanks for the feedback Luci. Fishing is one of those things I do when I want to let my brain take a breather. As it is almost noon here I may just head on out to the pond and see if they are biting today!

Mark
