Computer resets - weird memory slot issueHi all,
I am having a strange problem with my PC. I have a year old motherboard (Leadtek Winfast K7nCR18D Pro) and a new Athlon XP 3000+ and new 2 x 1GB corsair value sticks. My PC is randomly resetting itself even sitting at the bios screen, just as though the reset button had been pressed. I disconnected all the drives and it still happens. I have installed a new PSU, and it still happens. This is the bit that confuses me.... I have three dimm slots, one black two blue (for dual channel). If I put either of the chips only in the black slot I get NO problems at all. If I put either of the chips only in either of the blue slots it randomly resets, this happens whether I have a single chip in one of the blue slots or both chips in both blue slots. Obviously when there is only one chip in one blue slot the bios does not show 'dual channel enabled'. Is there any difference in the way a motherboard deals with the memory in the blue slots which could indicate a problem with the memory? or is it likely the motherboard is dying? Thanks for your help.... |

Hi,
my computer is doing the same thing, i wonder if you'r having the same problem. go to my computer properties, advanced tab, startup and recovery, there one of the checkmarks says "automatically reboot", can you uncheck it? next time your computer will want to restart, an error mesage will come up on the screen instead. Can you tell me what your says? thanks __________________

From the Leadtek site:
Quote:
Apparently you have to use dual DDR memory in the blue slots; if you're using standard DDR memory then the computer gets confused which is probably causing the reboots. __________________

what do you mean? i got my computer from SONY, and never changed any parts to it... so i'd think everything is ok with it, but then it just started randomly restarting. it is very annoying. all i do is reboot every 10 minutes. im reinstalling windows today, maybe that will help. do you know of any other reasons except for the DDR? __________________

With the Sony PC there is also a chance that the Power Supply is going bad PC will sometimes reset off and on with a bad power supply.

Hello,
we finally figured out waht was wrong, so i thought i'd post it here, in case it'll help someone else too. We have (Comcast) cable at home, and it was connected though the usb before. So i got a new cable box, and a new network card. It is not connected though the phone line, and works faster than ever. Yeay! No more random restarts ![]() __________________

That is strange but the fact that its fixed is certainly good news.
